Alibaba Balaahmed oğlu Mammadov was born on February 5, 1929, in the Mashaga village of Baku, Azerbaijan. His upbringing and education as a singer were heavily influenced by Baku's vibrant musical scene.

Mammadov made significant contributions to Azerbaijani music as a khanende, composer, and pedagogue.
