Democrats Eye Whitmer, Newsom as Biden Alternatives
Top Donors Push for Michigan Governor and California Governor to Replace President
As President Biden faces pressure to end his campaign, top Democratic donors have identified Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom as their preferred candidates to replace him.
Whitmer, who has gained national attention for her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Newsom, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, have both been seen as potential presidential contenders. They are joined by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker as possible Democratic challengers to Biden.
